| ~~~Shinigami~~~ Name: Lanying Baozhai Alias: Lany, though she hates the nickname. Her other alias is Kenpachi, but only on the battlefield will she accept being called this name. Age: 1810 Visual Age: Late teens to early 20s Gender: Female Reiatsu Color: Pink and Purple Affiliation: Gotei 13 Division: 11th Rank: Captain Class --------------------Persona-------------------- Appearance: Lanying Baozhai is a fairly tall individual. She stands about 5 feet 7 inches in height, but with her boots that is hightened by 2 inches so she stands 5 feet 9 inches. Her clothing is unique to most shinigami, as she has customized her shihakusho to suit her liking. Her shihakusho is black like the rest of them, but she has customized it so the top is a small top that hugs her rather average bust, but leaving her flat stomach completely open, as well as her back. The sleeves of her top are detached, leaving her shoulders open. The bottoms of her shihakusho are normal, except she wears pink and white boots instead of the normal sandals. She wears a white and pristine version of the 11th division Haori, rather than the tattered and worn version that is usually known to be worn by the captain of the 11th. Her body is covered from head to toe in a large purple dragon tattoo that starts at her ankles and climbs its way up her leg, skating over her rear, breaking off to peek out above her bottoms on her stomach, with the rest ending just before her neck and covering her shoulders. Her back is also heavily scarred, having scars that crisscross all over the place, from above her rear, to just under her shoulders. When in a gigai, she wears an outfit with a top exactly like her shihakusho's, except it's white on the left side and black on the right with gold trimmings as well a gold half cirlcle underneath her left breast. Her bottoms take a drastic change as they consist of what looks like the tattered remains of a black and purple cloak, a white ruffled miniskirt, and black stockings. The tattered remains of the cloak are worn on top of her miniskirt and extends a good distance away from her body. It is held in place by a brown belt. She keeps her boots in this outfit, but these ones have steel toes as well as black soles. - Apperance Picture:
Personality: Lanying Baozhai's personality can be described in a few words. She is best described as a Dandere. When looked at, she is a very quiet girl. Her face is usually void of all emotion, unless with her pets or her lieutenant, and will usually remain that way even in the heat of battle. When given an order, or talked to, or even looked at, she will either nod, or look away. Because of this, she is often thought of as a loner, when in actuality all she wants it to be able to make friends, she just doesn't know how. Because of her quiet nature, she usually carries around a small notepad where she will write down what she intends to say, give it to her lieutenant, who will then relay it to anyone around. When she does speak, her voice is much like her personality, soft and quiet. However, she will usually only speak one or two words, three if you are lucky. Likes:
- Lanying is an animal lover. She loves animals, and people who have animal characteristics. These are the only people that Lanying will be herself around.
- Lanying, despite her desire to make friends, enjoys being alone, or with as little amount of people as possible.
- Lanying is known to enjoy a drink here and there. She is known to enjoy sitting in one of the many bars and nursing a single drink all night, but will be off in the corner of the bar all by herself.
- She enjoys baths as they can help her relax and unwind after a long day of being a captain.
- Lanying enjoys sneaking out of Seireitei to go play with the 50+ pets she keeps in a secret house that she owns deep within the Rukongai. She usually hires some of the townspeople to make sure they are fed and took care of, but Lanying still worries about them.
- She also enjoys suntanning and, as is obvious due to her tan complexion, it can be ascertained that she sunbathes nude.
- She likes the Captain Commander as they were the one who allowed her to be free from the Maggot's Nest and rejoin the Gotei with no infractions on her record.
Dislikes:
- Lanying, despite liking animals of all kind, dislikes snakes. According to what has told Carlotta, she dislikes them because they are known as the tricksters of the animal kingdom.
- She has a dislike of people in general, as she feels that all they will do is betray her. This is a complete contrast to her personality, and is possibly one of the reasons she is so shy.
- She has a dislike of the technology of the Human World.
- She has a dislike of the Second Division as they were the ones who arrested her all those years ago.
- She has a huge hatred towards the Maggot's Nest. It is one of the only topics she will speak passionately about regardless of who she is around.
- Lanying has a dislike of cold weather.
Motivations:
- One of Lanying's motivations is to some day get over her shyness around people. She knows that not all people will betray her, as she has seen from her the Captain Commander, but still does not trust most people.
- As she is still seen as a murderer in many of the Shinigami's eyes, she wishes to prove her innocence. That she had nothing to do with the incident in question and was just there at the wrong time holding the 'bloodied' weapon.
- She hopes to one day have enough kan to build a mansion that can house all of her pets.
- A motivation that is somewhat fitting of her personality, is to someday fall in love, however, as love is an emotion she is a little new to, she has no way of going about this.
Fears:
- One of Lanying's biggest fears is the fear of being left behind. She doesn't remember much about her life as a human, but what she does remember, is dieing alone.
- Lanying seems to also be afraid of storms.
- Lanying has acute arachnophobia. The is unknown by a majority of people, mostly due to the fact she doesn't speak, but also because her face does not show the fear. Normally when confronted by a spider, Lanying is not alone, therefore she is able to 'hide' from the spider until the spider is either gone or taken care of.
- Lanying has a fear of snow, mostly because snow is one of the weaknesses to her zanpakuto, but also due to the fact she dislikes the cold.
- She has a slight fear of blood, due to her past and the time she spent in the Maggot's Nest.
--------------------History-------------------- History: - Life and Death:
Life and Death:
Lanying was once a normal human, of no special circumstances, no noble blood, and nothing really truly special about her. Born in the year 204 AD, she lived along with her family in the moutains of Feudal China during the Han Dynasty. When the Han Dynasty fell, the three warlords of Wei, Shu, and Wu, became locked in a brutal war to control all of China. Shortly after she turned 16, Lanying was able to lie and bribe her way into fighting for Wei, becoming a prominent soldier and eventually becoming a general in Cao Cao's army. By the time she was 18, she was in command of a small force that was stationed on the border between Wei and Shu.
One night, a night unlike any other, Lanying was having a strategy meeting with her top officers in her division. They had been trying to send a message out asking for supplies, but every messenger they sent out was later found dead, their bodies mutilated beyond recognition. The first thought that crossed Lanying's mind was that it was Shu trying to send a message to them, that they were already behind them. Her decision was to send out a small scouting party to the fortress that was to their rear, to see if they could find out what was going on.
A few days went by, and they had heard nothing from their scouts. They were running dangerously low on supplies, so Lanying decided to take the initiative in the next decision. She told her officers that she was going to go out alone, hoping it would draw out any enemy forces. She had explained to her officers that their mission was to surround any enemy units that would attempt to make themselves known and take care of them. Little did she know that she was stepping into a lot more than just a war for the throne.
The day after Lanying decided to be bait, she donned her uniform, hooked her jian to her waist, and proceeded towards the fortress that was to their encampment's rear. Two hours rolled by, and nothing was going on. It was quiet. She was able to see plenty of birds and other animals, and, despite her better judgement, was able to pet most of them. However as she got closer to the fortress, there were less and less animals around, which was odd as usually when one got close to a fortress, there were more animals. However she was soon able to see why. The fortress itself was in ruins. It looked as if it recently caught fire, but she could see no evidence that it was an attack from an enemy. It looked as if the fire was started by the fortress guards. When she went into the fortress, she saw that all the citizens were dead, piled up in the streets like trash.
Lanying was about to question what was going on, but before she could even react, she felt a sword stab her through the chest. She looked down, but saw no blade, but plenty of blood. She turned her head and saw no one behind her, and there was no arrow either. She could only collapse from her wounds and bleed to death. Before she closed her eyes, she saw a pair of feet that had black socks along with white sandals. She never did see this person's face, or even hear their voice. But those feet were burned in her mind before she closed her eyes to the blackness of death.
- Life After Death:
Life after Death:
After surrendering herself to the blackness that is death, Lanying expected it all to be over. No more war, no more pain. She was wrong. When she opened her eyes, she was in a massive dirt field, much like the one that was outside of the fortress she was just in. Off in the distance she could see what looked like a castle with many towers, but as she tried to move, she found that it was a little harder than usual. She fell a couple of times and, not getting very far, decided to give up.
She looked around at her surroundings and couldn't recognize anything. She didn't know how long it was while she sat there. Minutes stretched into hours, and hours stretched into days. Finally, when she was on the brink of death, a lone caravan was transporting what looked like bodies approached her.
The driver of the caravan asked Lanying if she was ok. He wore an outfit similar to those worn by palace guards and royals. Black robes and attatched to his hip was a type of sword that Lanying was unfamiliar with. She asked him who he was, and where they were, and he told her that he was a shinigami and they were in the Soul Society. more specifically the outskirts of Southern Rukongai. The shinigami could tell that Lanying had a high amount of reiatsu, so he asked her if she wanted a ride to the closer districts. Upon her agreement she entered his carriage and was brought to District 1 of South Rukongai. There she was able to gain access to the Sereitei, and was drafted into the newly founded Shinigami Academy.
- Life in the Academy:
Life in the Academy:
When Lanying first entered the Academy, she was astounded with the amount of souls who had a high amount of reiatsu. However, she quickly came to find out that hers was much higher than most, so much to the point that if she didn't learn proper control, her spiritual pressure alone could level an entire district. One of the first lessons they taught her was how to slowly let your reiatsu bleed out through the vents that all shinigami had in their wrists, this way she would be able to conceal her presence, as well as not kill anyone just by being close to them.
In the years when she was allowed to select her Asuachi, she asked if they had anything more unique to the normal katana they were giving out. The sensei that was handing the zanpakutos out nodded at her and brought her to a back room where they had a few different models of weapons. Lanying was immediately drawn to a basic Jian that was sitting in the corner. When she went to pick it up, the sensei smiled at her a little, laughing a little at her choice of weapon. But Lanying didn't care. She didn't know anything from before she woke up in that field, but she could somehow tell that this type of sword was special to her for some reason.
She spent many years with her Asuachi, trying hard to learn it's name. As luck would have it, on her 5th year after owning her own blade, she was able to learn it's name, as well as finally clearly see it's spirit. Yan turned out to be the exact opposite of Lanying, who was a quiet, calm, and intelligent girl, while Yan was a loud, obnoxious, and somewhat idiotic girl. However, despite their differences, they were able to become fast friends.
- Graduation:
Graduation:
It wasn't long after she learned the name of her zanpakuto, that she was able to graduate from the Academy.
Despite being a graduate, Lanying found it hard to join the Gotei as they were also required to take a few exams before joining, but after roughly 100 years, Lanying, was able to join the Gotei 13. Despite having very little combat experience, she started as the lieutenant of the 11th division, even though she had already been able to attain her bankai.
In the 100 years she trained with Yan, her spirit made some unusual requests. Despite being a spirit and having no real physical form, she would require Lanying to bring her food every time they were together in Lanying's inner world. They did this every day for 25 years before Lanying started to open up. She told Lanying that in order to attain her full power, and her bankai, she would need to prove that not only was she worthy to command her power, but that she could properly use it.
Yan would manifest the shikai version of their shared version and would request a battle. It proved difficult at first, as Yan clearly overpowered Lanying, but after 50 years, Lanying started to gain the upper hand. She was still losing, but she was able to land a few hits on Yan. By the last 10 years, Lanying was more powerful than Yan had hoped for, and finally granted her access to a limited Bankai.
In the last 5 years of their training, their battles were done in bankai, with Yan having full control, and Lanying having limited control. Again, Lanying was at a disadvantage as she was new to their shared bankai, and the fact that the bankai removed any weaponry Lanying had on her and she was forced to either fight with her hands, or use the power of their bankai. By the 2nd year of these battles, she proved that she was able to better control their bankai, and by the final year, Yan was happy with how Lanying had grown. She finally granted Lanying full control over Bankai and welcomed Lanying as not only her partner, but as her friend.
She was able to become the lieutenant as, not only was the seat vacant, but she had also proved that she was more than worthy of the seat as she was able to go toe to toe with the current captain, even managing to give them a scar. She did this all without even releasing her shikai, as the rules of the spar was to battle without releases. Despite her prowess in actual combat, and the fact she had very little combat experience, it came to her naturally, possibly from muscle memory from her time as a soldier as a human, but as she had no memory of this time, she just attributed it to skill and the training she did those 100 years with her Zanpakuto.
She spent 500 years as the Lieutenant of the 11th Division of the Gotei 13, but she finally decided she could move up. She requested the only captain available that day, the current captain of the 11th, the one known as Kenpachi, the strongest swordsman in the Gotei, to battle her and see if she was worthy of being a captain. The captain agreed and asked if there would be any rules. Lanying would only shake her head, signifying there would be no rules for this match.
They took the battle to the courtyard of the 11th division barracks where the entire division was having a mock battle. The captain and Lanying interrupted their mock battle by starting their own. The battle raged on for hours, neither person budging, until finally Lanying released her shikai, as did the captain. However, Lanying's shikai outmaneuvered the captain's, and Lanying was able to deal the finishing blow without ever revealing her bankai. However, what Lanying hadn't meant to do was kill the captain. She expected to be arrested and executed, but instead the entire 11th division bowed to her and gave her the captains haori of the 11th.
- Captaincy and the Incident:
Captaincy and the Incident:
Lanying was dumbfounded. 15 years ago, she had, unintentionally, killed the previous 11th division captain, and now here she was, in a captain's meeting with the other captains. The meeting was about some incidents that had been happening in the past few years. They were reletively small before, but they have gotten out of hand at this point. The balance of souls on the world of the living and the Soul Society was out of wack. It was determined that Lanying and her division would stay behind in this investigation, and to allow the other divisions to do their jobs. Lanying agreed to this without much of a problem. If her division didn't have to do anything, it meant a more likely chance of no one dieing.
However, things never seem to go as one would want. As it would turn out, this situation would come to cause 15 more years of chaos, and was only settled by Lanying being found one day, her sword bloodied from her 100 victims, and her back deeply wounded by many sword strikes. Without any questioning, Lanying was locked away in the Maggot's Nest, a place she would call home for the next 900years.
- Life as a Maggot:
Life as a Maggot:
During her first 100 years in the Maggot's Nest, she was brought in to testify her case almost every week. Each time they would find new evidence that would say she was innocent, but at the same time evidence that said she was guilty. They knew for a fact that she had killed the 100 shinigami that were under her command for that day, what they didn't know what why.
200 years after her trials had started, Lanying started to retreat into a shell. She started to hide her emotions, and stopped speaking unless directly spoken to, and even then only a few words. It made her case that much harder as she would no longer testify and give them evidence that she was innocent.
The next 600 years of her time in the Maggot's Nest were pretty much the same. She would go to trial every week, and it would go nowhere. That is until the last 50 years she was in trial. In these 50 years they started to gain more and more evidence that proved her innocent. As it would turn out, Lanying had discovered that a little over 100 shinigami were attempting to go rogue. They were going about this by leaving the soul society through secret senkaimon portals that their organization must have created. Lanying, knowing that it would take too long for any of the other captains to figure this out, left on her own to deal with it. She was able to locate their position and subdue them, but by the time her message got to the other captains, it had been passed through the hands of some of the 100 rogues. They were able to change the message into saying that Lanying was going on a rampage, which caused an alarm in all but the Captain Commander who knew Lanying would never do that, but, compared to the evidence they held in their hands, he had no choice but to issue the command for her arrest.
As her story was now known, and she was found innocent, she was released from the Maggot's Nest, reinstated into the Gotei, but had lost her captain position. She was now the 3rd seat in the 11th division.
- Captaincy, Again:
Captaincy, Again:
Lanying spent 200 years as a seated officer in the 11th division and felt she wanted her position back. She challenged the current captain to a duel and, much like the first time, she overpowered the captain in speed and was able to quickly dispatch them.
Upon the death of the previous Captain, as tradition stood in the 11th division, Lanying was given the Haori of the division. She has been captain of the 11th for the past 74 years.
- Blue Moon War:
Blue Moon War
6 months ago, Lanying participated in the massive war between the Gotei 13 and the Arrancar. As she was the captain of the 11th division, she was on the front lines giving orders to her division, as well as some of the reserves from other divisions. This proved to be a very unwise decision as most of the captains forgot that, despite her intelligence, she was not the best strategist.
As Lanying herself didn't really enjoy battle, she chose to join the battle only when absolutely necessary, such as when they were making the final advance. When this day happened, Lanying was on the front lines, killing anyone and anything that would dare to face her. Despite her cautious nature, she gained many new scars along her body, having most of them healed when the battle was done, but having the ones on her back remain as scars. As her division was the main assault force, it seemed that her division had suffered the most losses, having lost a good 150 of her divisions, including most of her seated officers.
