PostSubject: Only Yesterday [PRIVATE;ASK TO JOIN]   Sun Mar 30, 2014 1:52 pm

A practice that he had maintained since long before he had become a Captain of the Gotei 13, Alexander R. Kazura on occasion found himself heading towards the Shino Academy.  At times he would venture in that direction on business, having scheduled himself to be a guest lecturer on various subject matter.  There were times when he was not the guest lecturer, but the actual teacher of classes, such as his classes on Kido theory and practical application.  There were also times, however, when he found himself venturing to this origin point of the careers of all Shinigami simplproy because he liked to recall the fact that he had started from the bottom of the totem pole and worked his way up to the position that he was in today.  It was gratifying, which could have been said to be slightly prideful, but at times a man simply needed to be reminded that hard work could pay off.

With the Arrancar invasion that occurred during the Blue Moon War have dealt significant damage, and the fact that there was a mysterious dimensional tear hovering over Africa that no one seemed to understand the slightest thing about, it was good for the mind and soul to recall that most problems could be solved by simply soldiering on through them.  All that it would take would be a little bit of time and a lot of effort, or vice versa, or perhaps a lot of time and a lot of effort.  For all of that however, there was also a fourth purpose for him to be here that was relatively new: to ensure that the students of this place recalled the fact that the Shinigami were still in power and in control.  The Blue Moon War had cost many lives, and shaken many faiths, and it was during the times after such an event that Alexander felt his presence needed more than usual to help keep the student's vigor and morale at high points.

Not everything had to deal with keeping the student's attention on himself however, as Captain Alexander had requested another Shinigami join him today for this particular trip to the Shino Academy.  One Alastair Knightfield, newly promoted to be the Lieutenant of Division One, a prestigious position among the Gotei 13.  What made the promotion more noteworthy than the simple fact that someone had been elevated to the position itself was the fact that Alastair was to be Xion Miyamoto's first lieutenant in one thousand years.  The thought that Alexander himself was only just over five-hundred years old was recalled and put the entire scenario into perspective again.  The Division Five Captain had requested Alastair's presence, asking him to join the Captain along his walk towards the Shino Academy.  Captain Kazura expected him to be showing up shortly.

Alastair made his way into the gates of the Shino Academy. What nostalgia it brought to be here. He was the head of any class dealing with kido. He took a fond liking to it but never could explain why. Anyway this day wasn't about him or that's at least what he thought. Being called to the academy by another captain brought him joy. The news of his promotion to the 1st Division lieutenant was spreading like wildfire. He knew it was almost unavoidable to talk about in any current situation. He also didnt mind the attention he got to meet alot of people and alot of I personalities. What else places would he do thay then the Shino Academy. At any rate he would have to volunteer his and knowledge for other.

He would walk into the square of the academy where he would see the Captain of the Fifth Division Alexander R. Kazura. He would fix his attire and ruffle his hair to make sure he was presentable infront of the Captain. He never wanted anyone to see less then what he could be at any moment. Since the incident along ago which set him on the path of a Shinigami he vowed to stay strong and be nothing less of what he could be and he kept that word every since. As he approched the captain he would bow to his knee lowerimg his head, "Captain thank you for this glorious opportunity. As well as allowing me to enter your presence on such nostalgic and sacred grounds."

At this particular moment, the exterior of the Academy, the square included, was devoid of students.  This was due to the fact that the entire student body was currently inside, practicing their skills and attending various classes related to how to be more effective Shinigami.  This meant that Alexander saw Alastair coming from quite a distance away, and had a quiet chuckle to himself when he saw the other fixing himself up before actually approaching the Captain.  He could appreciate the desire to be seen as physically immaculate, but the Lieutenant was perhaps taking that desire a touch too far in the right direction.  When the Lieutenant bowed before him, Alexander had to resist the urge to laugh, instead settling on a light sigh.

Reaching down, the Captain would pull Alastair to his feet and dust him off a bit.  "Lieutenant, you simply must relax on the formalities a tad.  Save the bowing and the rest for Captain-Commander Miyamoto."  The Captain chided Alastair with lightly amused tones, eventually sticking out a hand for a shake.  "I'm glad that you came to join me for this visit.  The students at this Academy need to be shown reminders sometimes that hard work has grand rewards.  The Lieutenant of Division One, newly promoted to honor his efforts, should make for an excellent example, don't you think?"  Alexander had never been one for formalities, which was especially noted among those who served in his Division.  This made for a relaxing atmosphere around the Division Five barracks, which was what Alexander hoped for, considering that relaxed environments were proven to promote and aid with the learning of the Kido that was his Division's specialty.

Alastair was completely embarrassed as he was swopped to his feet. Although he felt some sort of comedic vibe as well. As  he were being dusting he with held the the will to laugh. Regardless he still kept his formal composer although less uptight.  He dusted the remander dust from his clothes as he finally spoke in a calm tone, "Sorry about that Sir. Just comes naturally I guess. Also I fully agree that these student definitely need a reminder what hard work and dedication would bring in the future. Would it be possible if I could take a kido target class while I'm here I absolutely love kido and the basic incantations are like a national anthem to me and the different colors and effeft just drive me cr.... It was then that Alastair realized he was going on one of his subconscious trips. He caught himself mid trip, "Sorry about that again..."

A spark, or perhaps a glint flashed in Alexander's eyes when Alastair mentioned a love for Kido. As the Captain of the most Kido-centered Division in Soul Society, as well as the Commander of the Kido Corps which he merged with the Fifth Division, Alexander considered himself to be one of the most passionate wielders of the Demon Art. That being said, he found kindred souls in those who expressed interest in the Art. Those that expressed high interest he considered to be like brothers in arms. "You have an interest in the Demon Arts, hmm? Well, you are talking to the right person then, Alastiar Knightfield. As the Captain of Division Five and Commander of the Kido Corps, I can assist you in your quest to gather more knowledge about this most favoured subject." To assist in making his point, Alexander pointed to the Kido Corps symbols emblazoned on the front of his haori, marking him as the Kido Corps Commander and Grand Kido Chief. "Take a class if you desire, though at the risk of sounding arrogant, I assume that there is no class room setting that can surpass learning directly from the Grand Kido Chief."

Alastair’s eyes released a aura of pure happiness. He yearned to be a master practitioner or the kido way but also to be taught by the commander of the Corp. He would not only fulfill the dream he promised but also get to work on something that fascinated him to every end, "Would you take time out of you day to teach me, Captain Alexander? It would me the world to me. Kido ways my career pathway during my studies and not to sound ignorant but it was the only class I fully enjoyed. The would once again he would allow his body to act without the mind giving it orders as he start to walk in a rhythmic strut pattering his feet in a dancing motion. He would then start humming the words of something that sounded like, "I love Kido."

The Kido Corps Commander had come here to potentially inspire some students and had instead gained a protegé to teach some of his knowledge to. Not only that, but he had gained something of an enthusiastic one as well, which pleased him quite a bit. "But of course. How could I say no to such an enthusiastic request? But first, let's handle the business of inspiring some young minds." Alexander said before heading to the doors that led to the interior of the Shino Academy. "For the record, Lieutenant, Kido was my main class as well." The Captain said with something of a laugh.

Alastair stopped in his tracks and regain his composer and pulled something from his pocket. A orange piece of candy. He would then unravel the wrapper popped it into his mouth. Candy mad his brain more focused even if temporarily. He would then smile at the captain, "I am certainly not surprised. He would would chuckle the nod in agreement with instructing the students.

Alexander would nod, conceding the point that it was not overly surprising that Kido was his best subject. "I'm not sure why, but no one ever seems to be surprised when I tell them that." The Captain said as he pushed open the great doors that led to the interior of the Shino Academy. The Shinigami would be heading to a lecture hall, but it would take a moment to get there and until then there were students milling about. Most of the action stopped when the Captain and Lieutenant walked into the Academy however, and it was obvious that much of the attention was focused around them. "Walk proudly, Lieutenant. Time to show off a bit before we get to the lecture hall." Alexander said with a bit of an amused chuckle, whispering so that the students did not hear his jovial voice.

"Its kinda of obvious," he would say without being disrespectful or ignorant, "You for one the Captain of the of Division Five which certainly are somewhat kido based. Not to mention you combined both the Kido Corps with Division Five on supports the inference of you majoring in Kido."Alastair would finish talking as soon as the doors opened. The scent of the academy hit him like a ton of bricks the unforgettable smell of limewood and some cleaning agent he had yet to discover, along with the scent came several memories none to vivid but obviously unforgettable as well. He stared proudly as the Captain suggested although not to uptight; relaxed exactly how the rest of the crowd was. The amount of eyes that glared in his direction was impressively not overwhelming but exciting. Mostly everyone stopped in their tracks to notice them.

Alastair heard groups of conversation start some of which he could make out distinct words like, "5th Division Captain," and "1st Squad Lieutenant." This attention certainly was a new thing to Alastair. He would bask in it but at the same time not wanting the attention. He was here to remind these students what hard work could do not as far as celebrity status as the humans referred to. He looked over to the Captain who wanted them both to show off a bit. Now usually Alastair wasnt the on to show off but he felt it was right to give the students a peak into what they could be looking forward to...

Alexander shrugged almost imperceptibly. "I suppose that you have a good point. Can't be the Grand Kido Chief without excelling in Kido, after all. Look out, by the way, you have a few fans." As expected, the students performed the feat of parting like the Red Sea before Moses and yet somehow managed to remain close enough that each whisper was as easily made out as if they had been standing right next to the Shinigami. It was similar to this whenever a Shinigami of substantial rank passed through the doors, regardless of how many times they had done so.

This was not surprising however, as the first and second seats of divisions were held to exceedingly high standards, with the most elite among them being raised to legendary status within the eyes of the students who wanted nothing more than to emulate them. This was especially evident when certain Captains and Lieutenants happened to pass by groups of students dedicated to their specific art. The 2nd Division officers were admired most by high speed movement specialists,4th and 5th Division by Kido specialists, and 11th by melee specialists of both Hakudo and Zanjutsu. However, everyone admired equally a high-ranking officer of the 1st Division, which was the Command Squad.

"Don't worry, we won't be in the halls for very long. There is a room that I'm looking for...actually, it's more of a lecture hall where many of the students are gathering. We're almost there." The Captain would say in a conciliatory tone. He was unaware of whether the Lieutenant was enjoying the attention or not, considering the fact that he was walking in front and looking straight ahead, aside from the occasional nod to a student.

Alastair continued to walk through the crowd of people nodding and waving professionally. He wanted to give these stusent the best motivation he could and he would plan to. Although who he was proved to be a grand thing to help assist his job. He would slow his pace allowing the Captain to take the lead. He had some memories of this place but none to vivid to remember a lecture hall. He turned to the Captain, "If you dont mind me ask how did you raise to your status?" He adjusted his zanpakuto on his hip lying his arm on the base of the sheath while holding on to the hilt of the blade itself. He took pride in his blade and further more himself. His feet tapped the floor steadily tet firmly and confident.

Briefly turning to face more towards the Lieutenant than his destination, Alexander tried and failed gloriously to keep the self-gratifying grin off of his face. "How did I become a Captain? I performed two tests, one being the Captain's Proficiency Exam, and the other being a similar exam but done on the basis of Kido alone rather than my overall skill as a Shinigami. Obviously I passed both with flying colors. Beforehand, I had served as a Lieutenant in Divisions 4 and 13 for a few hundred years, learning and mastering my bankai in that timeframe as well as earning the trust and respect of my Captains. That being said, those same two Captains were the ones who proctored my Exams. Other than the Head Captain himself, of course." It was quite a mouthful, but this was a subject which the Captain could not help but to be proud about. After all, the rank of Captain was an honor, a sign that you were considered elite and entrusted with a Division to lead. "On that note, how did you come to be where you are now?" Alexander's question was asked with an almost sheepish expression, as though he were trying to make up for his momentary prideful moment with one of humility. The Lieutenant would have just enough time to answer before they arrived at their destination. At that moment, the Captain and Lieutenant would turn a corner and the lecture hall would be in front of them, just past a large door. Students were milling into the doorway, but just as before, they would begin to part ways to clear a path for the Shinigami when they began to approach.

Alastair would listen fully to the Captain history as far as making assumptions to what it had to be lile during his way here. He would thinking a moment before answering his question in return, Well originally I wanted nothing to do with the life of a shinigami. It seemed as if it was to dangerous and risky. In which it is but it is but not as much as my young mind could think. After a tragic event in which I am sure you heard of. I have vowed to not only become the best shinigami I can be but also fulfill my dream to become the greatest Physiologist. I started off as the Lieutenant to sqaud 6 I raise to the rank of lieutenant by awakening my zanpakuto shikai form I gain that rank. Me getting my current rank resulted in me failing the Captain Efficiency Test because I haven't perfected my Bankai. The head captain thought it would be best if I served under him as his first...... eh you know the rest. Alastair was proud to have someone hear his story of a Captain level. Although he was the Lieutenant of the First Division since his promotion he has been very busy. From dealing with interviews from Division 9 to dealing with small disputes between Division. He never had time to form a relationship with of any form.

The two Shinigami would enter into the lecture hall at this point, a massive chamber that supported dozens to seemingly hundreds of students. The rows beginning to fill, the appearance was of students sitting in rows that ascended to provide a view of the podium centered on the ground. Heading down the stairs to reach the podium, Alexander would reply to the Lieutenant. "An intriguing tale. I must admit, I had no idea that your origin story was so...hmm..." The Captain waved a hand in the air, searching for the proper word, and failing would simply sigh. "...different than what I am used to hearing. Well, as the Lieutenant of Miyamoto Xion, you will have an excellent foundation from which to rise as a Shinigami. That much is certain."

In truth, Alexander was feeling slightly embarrassed at the moment. He had just mentioned passing the Captain's Exam as though it was a casual thing, but apparently Alastair had actually failed at it recently. He simply hoped that the Lieutenant was not offended by his careless wording. So far, he did not seem to be, which was a good sign. Eager to change the subject, Alexander would gesture towards the podium. "Well, so that I'm not guilty of throwing you to the fire, I'll tell you what we're doing in a more technical sense. We're going to give something like a motivational speech to this group of students here. I'll open the presentation, and you can enter in whenever you please." That said, Alexander would wait for the Lieutenant to answer before actually taking the steps that would land them both onto the platform that supported the podium itself.

The students had been conversing among themselves for several minutes, but all talking seemed to cease suddenly when the Captain and Lieutenant stepped onto the platform.  The Shinigami had the attention of the students completely, and every eye in the room was on them.  After taking a simple breath, Captain Kazura began.

"Welcome, students of the Spiritual Arts Academy.  Thank you coming today to hear what I have to say.  Most of you will know me as the Captain of the Fifth Division, Commander of the Kido Corps, and Grand Kido Chief of the Soul Society, Alexander R. Kazura.  Here with me today is the newly promoted Lieutenant of the First Division, Alastair Knightfield, the first to hold the position underneath Miyamoto Xion in one thousand years."

The Captain took a pause here, first to take another breath and secondly to allow the students a moment to mutter amongst themselves.  Many of them stared at Kazura with naked awe, but just as many stared at Alastair as though he were something out of a myth.  It was somewhat known who Alastair was, but the fact that no one had existed in his position under the Captain Commander for one thousand years earned much attention.  Alexander also left a few seconds open in case Alastair had anything to add to the introduction, before he would continue.

"The Soul Society saw much destruction in the wake of the Blue Moon War.  Much of the Rukongai was destroyed and many were killed in the onslaught.  Three Captain-class Shinigami lost their lives in the carnage of those fateful days, friends of mine all.  Some feared that the end had come for the Shinigami and for those that they defended...but then fate saw fit to have the tables turn.  The Hollows were pushed back and driven away from this hallowed ground.  Three of the Espada were killed, and the remainder of their forces were broken.  Afterwards, the Soul Society went onwards to the road of recovery, and the Shinigami followed suit.  Difficult has the task been to repair what has been damaged, but through dedication and an unwillingness to give up, much has been recovered that was once thought forever lost.  That is what brings me here today, my students, to tell you that through dedication and commitment, all things are possible."

Here the Captain placed another pause in his speech, to take a good sized breath and allow Alastair to 'jump in' if the other chose to do so.

Alastair stood their completely formal as the Captain introduced them whennhe name arose he would bow to the crowd in a moment of respect. He had nothing to say just yet when the Captain paused so he stood waitijg in the rest of his speech. As he finished his closing speech Alastair would pick up where he left off,

To pick up where the Captain left off many of people stepped up after the War one of which being me. At first I took no intrest into being a shinigami. If anything the thought disgusted me. Although years after the war a close friend of mine was stationed outside the walls of the Soul Society. Me being a numb skull decided to follow her regardless of what she said. So following her I decided to grab a wooden sword and challenge her. While fighting we were ambused by a strong hollow which left me with a scar and resulted in the death of my friend.

Before continuing he pulled down his Shihakushō revealing the long deep scar forever imprinted into his back. He would then inhale before continuing,

"After her death I vowed to take over the life she should have lived. So I joined the academy. During my day at the academy I did nothing but focus of my studies becoming the head of my class. Particularly in kido. This is where determination and motivation comes into play. Without my friends death inspiring deep down my secret desires. I trained hard to graduate from the academy. Of course it was challenging and at times hard but I have passed through it. Each and everyone of you were sitting where I was you just need to find your passion, your goal, your determination and motivation for being the best shinigami you want to be.

Alastair decided he had said enough for now and wanted the Captain to take the drivers seat before he continued on his journey to 1st Divisions Lieutenant.

And jump back in the Captain would. "As the Lieutenant mentioned, many people stepped up to fill in the void left in the aftermath of the Blue Moon War. Aside from the honorable First Division Lieutenant, new Captains have risen in the Third, Seventh, and Thirteenth Divisions, and they have risen admirably to the tasks set before them. The Rukongai has been healed of the physical harms done by the Hollows during their occupation, and Hollow activity is down in the world of the living in the aftermath of the counterattack led by Captain Commander Miyamoto Xion."

For a moment, the Captain stopped as he flashed back to the moments wherein the spine of the Hollow forces was broken. It had been a glorious victory, however...

"We as Shinigami cannot afford to rest on our laurels however, for there will always be new foes to fight and there will always be new challenges awaiting the Soul Society. That is where you as students come in, for you are our future. Among you are sitting future members of the Gotei 13, Onmitsukido, and Kido Corps. Among you sit future Shinigami seated officers, and the first and second seats of the Divisions of the Thirteen Court Guard Squads rest beside you even now. As the Lieutenant said, it is simply up to you to maintain your drive, your will do maintain your performance and excel in all things you do that will determine how far you go. And it is how far you as students go that will determine the future of the Soul Society."

Here once again Alexander stopped to allow Alastair to speak.
