This contest will be a three round fight. Each round will be decided by releases. The winner will be determined by the point total at the end of round three, or, should either party submit or lose their life before the end of the fight. Hajime!

The silence was deafening to behold.  An utter abyss from which no sound was generated and into which no sound could enter.  It was this way by design in the Captain's chamber of the Fifth Division's barracks, as only with tranquil silence could Alexander R. Kazura meditate in the form required to send his consciousness into the realm where his Zanpakuto's spirit resided.  With his blade resting across his lap and himself sitting in the full lotus position, Alexander was breathing steadily and relaxing every muscle in his body.  The end result gave him the appearance of being almost asleep, though to anyone with experience with Zanpakuto, it would be obvious that rest was far away in this state.

Successfully invoking Jinzen, otherwise known as Sword Meditation, Alexander found himself opening his eyes to the sight of his inner world...though it appeared rather different than when he had come last to the place.  Immense buildings akin to what those who resided in the world of the living referred to as 'skyscrapers' dominated this place.  It was on the side of one of this buildings that Kazura himself was standing, and as he looked towards where the ground should have been he saw only a light blueish coloration.  Looking in the other direction brought only an image of a blue sky darkened with light cloud cover.  To look in most other directions meant only that he would see more immense buildings.

'Interesting.'

For some time now, he had been able to feel Zangetsu calling out to him in his subtle ways.  The summons had been clear, and now that Alexander had arrived it was also clear that this had been no casual desire for conversation.  What was unclear was precisely what the meaning of this strange world was.  "Zangetsu, where are you?  You have called and I have answered, but why summon me here to this place?"  The Captain of the Kido Division called out into the strange imitation of the world of the living.  All there was left to do now was wait for an answer.

Zangetsu heard the man cry out for him, yet, it refused to respond. The blade itself was not in the best of moods and the sudden attempt to communicate with it by the Shinigami would prove to be a mistake. The blade would wait a few moments before opening it's mouth in response. " I am here but no where...where are you?" The blade was mocking the man in it's tone and it would allow the Shinigami to read into it's words however he wanted to. Zangetsu had been contemplating much lately, and was beginning to wonder if he was indeed created as an imprint of this man's soul. To Zangetsu, there would be only one way to find out.

" Tell me....who has more power....the king or his retainers?" Zangetsu had been inquisitive with the Shinigami before but had never asked a question as profound as this. The blade would appear familiar to the Shinigami, however, he wore upon his face a mask which covered all it's distinguishable features, except for it's eyes. It's eyes were a piercing yellow in color and would seem off to the Shinigami who had been to this world many times before. The world itself was no different then it always had been, yet, the blade was different in and of itself some how. As it's question would no doubt-ably take forethought and contemplation to truly answer the blade would finally show itself.

From a building slightly before the Shinigami, appeared the form of Zangetsu. It had already drawn itself and held it with a slightly limp grasp within it's right hand. " Don't take to long to answer me, or I might conclude that you are a king who does not truly understand the worth of his retainers....the sad part about that is that any tyrant such as the one I just described is often executed by their very retainers..."

For a moment, the silence was as complete as in this world as it was in the reality in which Alexander sat on the floor with his legs crossed and his blade on his lap.  Something different about the two silences however, was that the one in his chambers was comforting.  This one was simply foreboding, perhaps because it lacked all sources of ambient sound.  Thankfully, this strange quiet was broken without too much time passing by the voice of Zangetsu, though something seemed to be slightly strange within its voice.

What was this tinge of mockery he was hearing?  To the first question, Alexander gave no response, simply standing where he was and waiting for the blade to show itself.  Then the second question sounded across this strange new world, and the Shinigami raised an eyebrow but still did not respond for some time.

'A king or his retainers?  Who has more power...hmm...'  This was a new phenomenon, as when he came to this world to speak with Zangetsu, the blade typically did not spend time giving him riddles to answer.  Precisely what was going on?  Alexander was about to speak again, to demand that the blade show itself when he noticed that Zangetsu appeared suddenly within his line of sight.  The appearance of his sword's spirit only caused more confusion however, as it appeared as different as this world did...and it had drawn itself.

'What is that mask?  What is this place?  What is going on around here?'  Alexander thought to himself, eyes narrowing slightly and a small frown appearing on his face.  Then he sighed and his expression softened again, even reversing to become an almost wry smile.  For a time after Zangetsu's last words, Alexander had remained silent even against the blade's wishes.  Now he began to chuckle, and finally he spoke.  For a moment, he had allowed this strange environment to confuse him and cause his calm to slip slightly.  That moment had passed however, and now Alexander R. Kazura was as he should be once more.

"Very well, it seems I have little choice but to go along with this strange game you seek to play.  Neither the king nor his retainers have more power, Zangetsu, and here is why: the king, without his retainers, is akin to a mind without a body.  He can give directions, but no one will hear him and nothing will be done.  In the same manner, retainers without their king are like a body without a mind.  It can be powerfully built, athletic beyond reason, or durable as a mountain, and yet none of that will matter if there is no mind to direct its actions."

At this point, Alexander R. Kazura reached upwards with his right hand and grasped the hilt of the Zangetsu that was attached to his back.  He drew it slowly and purposefully, staring the Zangetsu who stood before him in the eyes.  "In either scenario, the king and his retainers are entirely useless, for one has no power to enforce his will and the other has no will to guide their power.  Only together, as king and retainer, mind and body, Shinigami and Zanpakuto, can their purpose be fulfilled.  Sheathe your blade, Zangetsu, I am no tyrant, but neither can I allow rebellion to occur within the castle that is my mind."  By this point, Alexander's Zangetsu was out and with his last words had been placed in a line to point with its tip at the standing Zangetsu.  His eyes told Zangetsu's that his words were not a mere bluff or request, but that he was in fact determined to see Zangetsu sheathe himself one way or the other.

Zangetsu was not pleased by the boy's answer as well as his blatant disrespect. The blade was a being of pure power with the propensity of both saving and taking lives. It would appear to Zangetsu that the boy had indeed forgotten his place, and the blade in turn felt it was time to remind him of such. " Do you honestly believe you are anything without my power?" The tone the blade gave was that of a patronizing one, with the blade allowing it's tone of superiority to ring forth. The blade noticing the Shinigami's combative body language was all the blade needed to determine what it's next action would be. As if acting in retort not just verbally but physically, the Zanpakutou simply pointed it's blade at it's would be master and allowed itself to chuckle for a moment.

" Death is all that awaits you child, for you are far from worthy to wield me...you regard yourself with the same regalia of a king yet you are merely a peasant in the garb of a King...prepare yourself peasant...for you will soon know your place!" Zangetsu raised it's reiatsu in an instant. It's intensity blasting forth from it's humanoid form as it had begun to walk toward the Shinigami. The air was beginning to grow thick and heavy from underneath the massive spiritual pressure now present. This would be a conflict that could only be decided by the clashing of swords and wills, and Zangetsu was far from weak of either heart or disposition.

Upon reaching the Shinigami the blade would spring to action. It would twist and writhe it's body in a rhythmic fashion. It's pace was very dance like, yet, still possessed a certain edge to it. The blade would begin their battle with a swift slash at the man's neck from slightly above the right side of his head.

There would be a moment of silence, when Alexander would keep his blade held upright and pointed at Zangetsu while the latter processed his response.  It would not be a long moment of waiting, for soon the blade spirit would offer a rebuttal that denounced the Shinigami's right to rule in this realm.  It appeared that Zangetsu thought itself to be superior in every way to Alexander, and that it thought itself to be the true power of their Shinigami and Zanpakuto relationship.

It questioned his worth to wield it, called him a peasant, professed that he would soon learn his place.  It seemed to Alexander that it was not the Shinigami that was overestimating himself, but his Zanpakuto.  Though it was true that he had declared himself King, it had been in the same turn of words that he had declared that he would have been powerless without his retainer to enforce his will.  Zangetsu would clearly not accept these terms of equality, instead choosing to release his reiatsu.  With that, Alexander knew that battle was inevitable between himself and his sword.  The drawing of a blade was simply a threat, but to the Shinigami the release of one's spiritual pressure in this particular manner truly heralded the beginning of combat from which one could not back down without submission.  'I see...'  There was no option but to subdue Zangetsu.

If he did not defeat the sword here, then he would never again command its respect if he even survived.  As Zangetsu walked towards him, Alexander released his own reiatsu, the silver aura ornamented with black ribbons of energy.  Even as his Zanpakuto walked, Alexander began to walk towards it, a grim determination in his eyes.  Before he reached Zangetsu however, he would do something rather unorthodox and more than likely surprising to the sword.  He would turn the blade upside down in his right hand and hold with a reverse-grip.  Battle would be joined with an explosion of movement.  Zangetsu would strike towards his neck from above, which would cause Alexander to smile as he raised his own sword to block the strike.  Raising his hand above his head, Alexander's sword formed a pillar to shield him from the blow, but Zangetsu had made a mistake in attacking an upper point on his body.

An advantage to wielding a weapon reverse handed was that when one blocked a strike as Alexander had, they blocked it by raising the weapon upwards instead of swinging downwards or to the side.  Thus when the blades clashed, they would do so in a way that saw them meet just above his torso.  This left his left hand a clear path to Zangetsu's body.  "Bakudo number nine: Geki."  The words escaped the second the blades met, and the red beam erupted from Alexander's hand towards Zangetsu's body in the instant after.   Fortunately it did not have far to go, though that was not a guarantee that it would strike its target.  In case it missed, Alexander was watching Zangetsu's body like a hawk, searching for even the slightest hints of his next move.  Should it strike its target however, the red beam that Geki produced would cause physical paralysis for a short time. Even if the beam did strike however, Alexander would not end this duel quite yet. He have something to say to the blade instead.

The blade was enjoying itself, as the strike had been blocked. The blade was at the pinnacle of it's combative prowess and with no sense of hesitation, simply kicked off the air, entering high speed movement to avoid the coming Kido. The movement was quick and now there was a bit of distance between the two. The blade laughed at the display by the Shinigami, having to rely on Kido in an attempt to bring it down. To the zanpakutou this would be a sign of disrespect, it's own power should be more then enough to defeat it yet, the Shinigami would rely on Kido. It's mind had been made up, and Zangetsu would stand their staring for a moment at the man, it's glowing yellow eyes piercing to the depths of the man's very soul.

" You are so weak.....you won't be able to defeat me after a thousand years of training at the rate you are going. To think you would be stupid enough to assume that such foolishness and bravado, would be enough to subdue me...you are a fool." The blade's words were filled with malice generated from the man's attempt to defeat him. This battle would be a tough one, but not for the blade. The blade had seen many battles by this time, and had developed the sheer propensity to take life, after all, the blade was nothing more then a tool or instrument. The true battle was to begin now, as the feeling out stage of any battle was coming to a close.

The blade would withdraw the sheath at it's side, then grasping it in it's left hand. The air would blast back as the blade used high speed movement to close the gap. Upon reaching the man, the blade would strike at the Shinigami with it's right hand towards the Shinigami's head from the right side while leaving it's left sheath hand at the ready to strike the Shinigami.
